Julia S.

Age: 19

Place of residence: West Norwood

What kind of placement do you attend and why have you decided to do it? What do you want to achieve through your placement?

I am in the media section of Embrace Cooperation Ltd.. We (L. and I) create the blog for our group, we get a whiff of the work of a non-profit organization and we work on our own project for the Life Dreams Project. It is an art project and we would like to figure out how one can insert art into the Life Dreams Project. How important is art to young adults? To what extent can art help them to overcome their life difficulties? Is there a chance for them to use art in their future to reach out their own life dream? Those are all unsolved questions we would like to figure out. Therefore we do a lot of research and field trips.
I always wanted to get to know what it is like to work in a social business. Because of that I intended to work for Embrace for eight weeks and do my placement there. I passed my A-levels this year. Therefore I was curious if social or media work could be an option for me. Maybe I am going to study one of these subjects next year in Germany.

Have you served any apprenticeship? If not, what kind of profession would you like to do in the future? What are your dreams and passions, your hobbies?

I am really into art, music, theatre, dancing and history. I do not know yet what kind of profession I actually would like to do in the future. I hope I will find out about this in the next couple of weeks. For example something which has to do with media would be great. I have not served any apprenticeship so far – I had been pupil for thirteen years.

What are your impressions about your first week in London? What do you think about your workplace? Have you discovered anything impressive, interesting or fantastical you would like to share with us (sights, people, places, work experiences)?

I do like my duties at Embrace and I got to know a lot of very exciting persons at my workplace. Furthermore I am looking forward to working on my own project and find out a lot about art and its power on people. I saw a lot of classical sights yet and I do advise everyone the National Gallery! It is a breathtaking place!
