Christina St.

Age: 23

Place of residence: 138 Mostyn Road, Wimbelton, London
and in Germany I live in Luckenwalde near Berlin

What kind of placement do you attend and why have you decided to do it? What do you want to achieve trough your placement?

I am working at CoolTan Arts in London and my placement is about media and graphic design. I decided to do this because my profession is Student of Product Design and one thing I learned there is how to make advertisement. Therefore I want to practise and improve my knowledge’s in this area especially with PC programs like InDesign, Photoshop or Illustrator.

Have you served any apprenticeship? If not, what kind of profession would you like to do in the future? What are your dreams and passions, your hobbies?

I made an apprenticeship as a Student of Product Design but later I would like to study Marketing that’s why I need to expand my skills in the field of advertisement and things like that.
I also like to work in other countries and love to travel around the world. I believe that nowadays language knowledge’s are very important to be successful for finding a good job. My dream is to go abroad to live and work in another country. For that I try to make work experiences at different places as much as I can.
My hobbies include painting, drawing, photography and visiting galleries and theatres.

Is there someone in your life that inspires you or is there any person you look up to? Why?

No, not yet. Maybe I will find a person like that later in my life.

What are your impressions about your first week in London? What do you think about your workplace? Have you discovered anything impressive, interesting or fantastical you would like to share with us (sights, people, places, work experiences)?

My impression until now is that London is a stressful, hectic city which is full of people and for me it is worse than Berlin. But on the other hand it is also a very interesting; exciting place where you can find nearly everything you need or want. A lot of events, museums, galleries and other possibilities, you can meet people from everywhere around the world. There are so many things to discover that I am sure eight weeks are not enough to see all of them.

My workplace is really good. Here I can learn new skills and make new experiences, meet new people and improve my English.

People who are interested in Art and galleries I would give them the advice to go to the Tate Modern. It’s my favourite gallery in London.

Weekly reports by Christina:

1 week:

We arrived in London and it was an exciting feeling and huge enthusiasm. The first days we had just English lessons where we wrote a new and better CV. On Thursday we went the first time to our placements. On my first day I got the impression that I would have a real good time in there because the people are so friendly and the working atmosphere is wonderful.

2 week:

In my placement I learnt a lot about important PC programs which I never used before. I tried to learn it by myself but I realised that I need a real training for that to understand everything. Unfortunately there is no one who could really teach me how to use these programs. They don’t have a professional graphic designer.
In my free time I went to the Natural History Museum, London Dungeon and saw London by night.

3 week:

At my work I get better with the PC programs. I learn more and more. I also got into touch with more people and I get more used to speaking and listening English. But there is one thing I dislike a bit. We are 9 Germans in one house and I always need to change the language. Sometimes it’s difficult for me to get better in English when I still speak and think in German.

4 week:

It’s not a good week for me. I’m ill. I have tonsillitis. To go to a doctor in Great Britain is not that easy as in Germany. I had to make an appointment and after that I was able to se the doctor. Normally you get an appointment one or two days later but for me it was very important that I become medicine. The good thing is that everybody can go to the doctor you don’t need an insurance card.

5 week:

I’m still ill and sad about this fact. I would like to go out to my work and see London not just sitting in my bed. We also have some problems in our house. I hope everything get better soon.
